Plainclothes (2025)
“Plainclothes” is a gripping drama thriller set in 2025, directed and written by Carmen Emmi. The film takes viewers into the conflicted world of Lucas, a dedicated undercover agent tasked with infiltrating underground communities to arrest gay men as part of a controversial operation. However, the mission takes an unexpected turn when Lucas finds himself emotionally entangled with one of his intended targets, forcing him to question not only his orders but also his own identity.
Tom Blyth leads the cast with a powerful performance as Lucas, a man caught between duty and desire in a world built on secrecy and prejudice. Opposite him, Russell Tovey plays Andrew, the compassionate and charismatic man who awakens feelings in Lucas that he can no longer deny. Their chemistry drives the film’s emotional core, bringing depth to a story about repression, betrayal, and ultimately, personal liberation.
The supporting cast includes Maria Dizzia as Marie, Lucas’s superior officer, and Christian Cooke as Ron, a fellow operative growing suspicious of Lucas’s shifting loyalties. The film also features Sam Asa Brownstein, Henry Stockwell, Ben Anderson, and Jason Ngo in smaller yet impactful roles.
